catalina.out log file owned by syslog

Question 1

Is it safe to delete the catalina.out logs which owned by syslog? We noticed that it is not compressed that takes 9GB of size.

We want to delete catalina.out (modified 03/09/2025) because there is another log which is catalina.out.1 (present).

Question 2

You can delete the catalina.out, but you need to restart tomcat after.

I also recommend rotating Tomcat logs using another utility (logrotate).
