Hello. We are currently facing an issue whereby when we try to sign into the Teams app on an MDM'd mobile device with a 365 'guest account', the sign in fails with the error 'There was a problem with the network. Try signing in again'.

It works fine on the same tablet without the MDM being in place.

It has the latest version of the Teams app, everything is updated etc. the only different factor is the MDM being present.

I find it interesting that it only fails with a 365 guest account, that we've invited to the organisation. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the MDM or a problem with Microsoft/Teams. I feel that if I contacted Microsoft about this and explained it worked without the MDM in place they'd blame the MDM, but equally Teams/Microsoft might be to blame rather than the MDM. I'm stuck as to where to turn to for answers.

Just to clarify, we have an organisation to which we have invited external users to join as 'guest' users within 365. This works for signing into Teams without a company email address, but able to access the company resources. We've tested various devices and operating systems and so on, and the only time it fails is on a phone/tablet with the MDM installed.

Let me know if you need any further information. I would appreciate any help at all, thanks.

Headwind MDM doesn't block or affect network traffic in any way, unless you're using OpenVPN or URL filtering module.

I think the only way to diagnose this is to analyze the network traffic on a router (not an easy thing).

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.

Unfortunately I do not have extensive experience with networking, and am not sure what to look at. Would you be able to provide any additional guidance for me?

I did some more testing, on a Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 (SM-X200), and it works without the MDM but when the MDM is installed it doesn't work. It doesn't happen on our mobiles either (Samsung Galaxy A23 5G). And it doesn't happen on our older tablets either, even of the same model etc.

I don't know whether this is the fault of the MDM or Microsoft or Samsung. Microsoft blame the MDM and told me to contact yourself.

What could possibly cause this issue only to occur on newer tablets, and only when the MDM is installed, and only when the account being logged into is a 'guest account'? I'm struggling to see why this logically would occur.

I personally think it's a Teams issue, but is caused by the MDM, if you know what I mean. Can you give me any additional advice please? Thank you.
